Since 1984 Fr. Donal has regularly visited Medjugorje and observed closely the events taking place there. The growth and development of many new movements for young people within the Church all relying entirely on Gods providence and responding to the needs of today was a source of great encouragement. Having the opportunity there to minister to so many young people, who came searching for something without knowing what, and seeing them finding much more than they expected, faith in a living God who loved them, strengthened the desire to respond to this great need.

Why a House in Medjugorge
Why a House in Medjugorge In April of 2005 Muintir Mhuire purchased a house in Medjugorje, Bosnia i Herzegovina. As always with Divine Providence the unexpected happens at a time when one is faced with difficulties. In March of 2005 we were down to a few members. Our work on the old farmhouse that we had purchased the previous year had been stopped by the local Planning Authority who now insisted on us supplying them with a comprehensive plan for the whole development. We had been advised that those who had so kindly loaned us Monacraigh Cottage were now anxious to have it back. This was the situation I was leaving at home as I made my way to the Conference for Leaders of Prayer Groups held in Medjugorje each year.

Community involvements

St. James Parish
St. James Parish In early 2006 the Muintir Mhuire Community was asked by one of the local Franciscians to help at the English Mass which is held at 10.00am weekdays and 12.00 noon on Sundays. With the absence of a resident English speaking Priest to coordinate, the community helped with the Choir, the facilitation of visiting priests participating in Holy Mass and the coordination of pilgrims at the doors of the church. Fr. Kevin has now taken up residence and position of coordinator and members of the community now assist him in his duties wherever possible.

Mothers Village
Mothers Village Part of being in our community is that we learn to give. There is no greater pleasure than to give freely of ones time. We have learned through experience that the more we help our fellow neighbour the more that we forget about ourselves and enjoy the total freedom of self giving and true Love. The Mothers Village is Located East of Medjugorje Village and must be commended on its extraordinary selfless love for the caring for others. It has many enterprises of which all rely totally on Divine Providence. In coordination with the helpers of Mothers Village, the community members of Muintir Mhuire have given their time to the helping with the humanitarian aid loading and unloading lorries or containers.

St. Luke's Medical Project
St. Luke's Medical Project When Muintir Mhuire bought “ Europa”, our house in Medjugorje we decided that we would never be involved in any kind of fundraising in Medjugorje itself and that we would continue to facilitate our generous friends in Ireland who wanted to help the people of this area through the many outstanding humanitarian works done by the Franciscans.
