November 2006 we made contact with the Bon Secure Sisters in Cork, who had recently closed their Maternity Hospital. They made a considerable amount of their equipment available to us. We also had a further urgent request from Mostar for Hospital beds and we approached the Good Shepherd Sisters who had recently closed Clifton Convalescent Home. They made all their hospital beds available and more medical supplies.

In February we secured a forty-foot truck with the support of Des Kelly, Dublin and sent the bulk of that material to Mostar. Since then, in conjunction with him we have sent another truck load to the Mothers Village.

Over many years now people have spent a week in Medjugorje following the Pilgrim Programme and finding it very beneficial. They have stayed in the local houses and been looked after very well. Many have done this year after year and got a lot from it.

What we offer is different. When people join us for the week they follow the Community Prayer Programme and participate in the Daily Evening Programme at St. James’s Church. They also join us in visiting some of the other Christian Communities and hear their story. It is a week that concentrates on the fruits of this holy place. It is a week in which the participants take on the Basic Commitment of the Community, sharing in the Prayer, Work and Study as well as the responsibilities of Membership.

       In April of 2004 Muintir Mhuire purchased 6 acres of land and an old farmhouse at Ballybutler, Ladysbridge, Co.Cork. In  2006 we received Planning permission for Muintir Mhuire’s first purposely designed community complex on our own property.

       The Spiritual development of our members is our primary focus. Hence a purposely designed complex on a suitable site would give the individual members the ideal setting in which to make personal progress. A natural and reflective setting, a homely atmosphere, prayer gardens and organic gardens all contribute to the overall development of each person. Space, time for reflection, private prayer, community prayer , work, study, sleep and social gatherings, were all areas considered in the layout, the positioning and architectural aspect of each building.

Inspired to build a place of prayer for the youth we began work on the construction of the prayer area in our yard in Europa.We started, what has become, our regular Sunday night prayer meetings in our house.This brought many Irish in contact with our community.
